About Us

Who are we?

As an organisation we provide fun learning opportunities for young people and young adults to take responsibility for a part of their lives, either as volunteers providing instruction or support within our project, or actually taking part as a member in the activities that we deliver. We also give individuals and groups a chance to learn new skills and gain extra qualifications and to take responsibility for others in their community.

We have an enviable reputation for the work that we deliver with and alongside young people & partners.

A grand day out

Who do we work with?

  • Young people and young adults who receive little, or no parental support. Young people who are at risk from negative peer pressure, young people on alternative curriculum programs, who have had involvement with the police, and the courts.
  • Young people and young adults who are from areas that suffer severe social and financial depravation, social exclusion, or are in care.
  • Young people or young adults, who are perhaps because of their history and their circumstances disadvantaged in terms of education, qualifications and self esteem, that has led to, or is leading to long term unemployment & low aspirations.

Our area of benefit is West Yorkshire. There are to our knowledge no other totally volunteer run organisations that work with young people in the way that we do, and who have as many positive and close links with the communities that we work with and the agencies within those areas where we are based.

Our history

Serious Fun was conceived in 1993. Dave Norman, Tony Edwards, Janice Dix and Michael Heaton being the catalyst behind the formation of the organisation. Once the idea of the project was brought on line, and a Charity was developed they became trustees of the organisation. It is those four people who have seen to the overall development of the group so far. Our aim was develop a local, visible, responsible proactive group that offered regular interactive fun learning experiences to local mainly young people

The Trustees work alongside and within the main committee. It is the present committee and those committee members who have been involved in what we do in the past, who have provide Serious Fun with the long-term stability and security that it has.

The boat finally goes in!
